All technology is eventually appropriated for the most basic of human needs—love, lust and sin. The invention of the postal service was no different. How many couplings found their start, and end, via an impassioned letter? Named in part after this phenomenon and Nathaniel Hawthorne’s magnum opus of the same name, The Scarlet Letter is a hedonistic sparkling version of Padthaway Shiraz. The first sip will make you lust for a second. The second bubbles forth feelings of guilt. The third—a warm embrace. From there, redemption is assured.
The Scarlet Letter NV Sparkling Shiraz 86
points
“Really dark, vibrant purple in color, with
oak-inflected notes of cedar, vanilla and chocolate layered over black
cherries. It’s on the soft, slightly
sweet side, but offers an easy-to-drink mouthful of sparkling Shiraz.”
Joe Czerwinski February 2012
Lovely purple/red wine with intense blackberry fruit, some nice fine tannins and aniseed/spice characters. Rich and powerful in the mouth.
