2015 Pillar Box Red
Bronze, gold, green, blue and chocolate brown were all colours applied to pillar boxes. In fact, their livery mainly depended upon the personal choice of the district surveyor. That is, until 1874, when pillar box red became the standard colour for the highly decorated mail posting boxes.
A vibrant wine, bursting with flavours of blackcurrant, mint and licorice.

Vintage 2010 - Adelaide Review Hot 100 2012
This is a very at ease wine that is delicious and elegant. A new style of freshness as this flows in waves at the finish.
Vintage 2009 - News Ltd, Tony Love
A Padthaway shiraz dominant bargain with cabernet and merlot backing up, the trio showing all the joys of the style - raspberry strap and chocolate coated bullet flavours with good spice and juicy drink-ability. Tony Love, November 2012
Vintage 2009 - James Halliday 1001 Wines Under $20
The wine is named after the 19th-century mail coach service that ran through the pastoral property in Padthaway on which the large vineyard is situated. Other evocative brand names are Parson's Flat, The Trial of John Montford, Dead Letter Office, Morse Code and The Postmistress. The other thing they have in common is value for money. Light to medium purple-red, this is a shiraz, cabernet sauvignon and merlot blend with a supple display of blackberry, blackcurrant and plum fruit on the light- to medium-bodied palate. It's an attractive, drink-now pizza or pasta style. James Halliday, November 2011
Vintage 2008 - James Halliday Wine Companion 2011
...a neatly put together light- to medium bodied blend (Shiraz/Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot), spicy/earthy shiraz the leader, but combining well with the other components. Screwcap.
Vintage 2008 - News Ltd, Tony Love
CLEVER BLEND: A budget level blend of shiraz-cabernet and merlot from the Longbottom Vigneron family that is backed up by a black label reserve shiraz at $18 showing even more style. The Longbottoms’ large range of labels goes beyond the Pillar Boxes to a well-priced Dead Letter Office cross regional shiraz and up into the $30 range a Henry’s Drive Shiraz with plenty of fresh plum purity and fleshy structure. A hearty, full bodied red with no sharp edges, meaty, chewy and suited perfectly for the autumn barbeque with big lamb and beef over flame. Tony Love, April 2010
Vintage 2008 - Wine Spectator
Firm in texture, with smoky tobacco notes around a chewy core of black cherry and licorice. Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Drink now through 2012. Harvey Steiman, April 2010
Vintage 2010 - James Halliday Wine Companion 2014
Solid purple-red colour; reflects the good vintage with its array of red and black fruits, oak and tannins merely the postmen. Compelling value for now or later casual drinking. James Halliday, July 2013
Vintage 2010 - Wine Spectator

Vintage 2010 - Winestate, Top 40 best value wines
Inky red colour, a briary, gamey nose and a warm, ripe fruit palate. December 2012
Vintage 2010 - Australian Gourmet Traveller Wine
Padthaway is a huge vinous fruit bowl providing high-quality grapes to the big players, yet it rarely rates more than a mention on their back labels. This valuepacked red is out to change that. Winemaker Renae Hirsch blended shiraz with cabernet sauvignon, adding a splash of merlot to create a juicy, warm-hearted red with fruit to the fore and mildmannered tannins in the background. The flavours are of fresh raspberry, red licorice and mocha chocolate perfect with pork and fennel chipolatas. Peter Bourne, March 2011
Vintage 2010 - Wine Advocate, 89/100
The current release 2010 Pillar Box Red is a blend of 68% Shiraz, 27% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot, displaying a deep garnet-purple color and fragrant notes of warm cassis and blackberries, violets and dried mint with a hint of red roses. Rich, full, well balanced and nicely textured with a medium level of velvety tannins, it has balanced acidity lending just enough lift in the long finish. It’s great to drink now through should keep to 2017+. Lisa Perotti-Brown, December 2012
